Funny meme about AI optimizing flight routes

This made me laugh. Then it made me think.
The AI “optimized” the straight line. On a flat map it looks shorter. On an actual sphere it’s wrong by thousands of kilometers.
But here’s what this meme really shows: we are training AI on text and images while the physical world operates in three dimensions with its own geometry, gravity and scale.
The AI didn’t fail because it was dumb. It failed because nobody gave it a proper model of the Earth.
Context and physics matter. A model that understands the world as a sphere, where proximity, distance and direction are encoded correctly from the start, doesn’t make this mistake. The geometry is in the representation itself, and the “AI optimized route” becomes impossible.
Imagine what becomes possible when AI actually understands WHERE things are, not just WHAT they are.
We’ve barely scratched the surface.
